Soil Connectivity
Soil continues to be the ultimate provider for Earth’s entities throughout time. Soil carries a humongous responsibility in its relationship to the EARTH and its inhabitants. To name a few: soil filters water for consumption, is a home and nutrient provider for plant’s roots, and is home to animals; many insects start their life cycle in the soil; it is a growth medium for our food and clothing and provides shelter (e.g. clay homes), energy resources, a path for us to walk, and a medium for art forms (sculpting, painting, etc.). Outsourcing our soil in this context relates to the globalization of our food sources and other resources. As we continue to outsource, the soils have suffered dramatically in terms of contamination and erosion and in turn, have created a backlash that we can’t seem to wrap our minds around and even agree that the Earth has been negatively impacted. How do we (re)connect with the soil?
